Foundry Dock Park
Foundry Dock Park is a small property with big views and important history
Tranquil Foundry Dock Park is just a few steps from the Cold Spring train stationRobert Rodriguez, Jr.
Cold Spring, Putnam County—Officially opened in June 2006, this riverfront park is enjoyed by many who come to relax, enjoy the spectacular views or launch a kayak.
During the 19th century, the site served as an industrial wharf with a loading dock for the historic West Point Foundry.
Before Scenic Hudson purchased the riverfront property in 1996 for public access, it was sorely neglected but enjoyed as a favorite put-in for small boats. Scenic Hudson and volunteers cleared loads of trash and debris and the popularity of the site increased as the interest in kayaking on the river and into Constitution Marsh Audubon Sanctuary grew.
Scenic Hudson is pleased to ensure that this magnificent property, with its history and easy access to the river, connects people with the power and spirit of the river. The design and construction of this park was funded in part by a NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Grant. We are also grateful to Putnam County, the Village of Cold Spring and Metro-North Railroad for their support.
Features
The handicapped-accessible park offers views of the river and the Hudson Highlands and features a gravel walkway, benches, two viewing decks, a grassy knoll and many native plantings. There are two on-site parking spaces and one handicapped-parking space. Additional free parking is available on weekends specifically for park users through an agreement with Metro-North. A gravel launch is available for small boats. Please refer to park rules (PDF/43KB) for more information.
