Each year, Scenic Hudson pursues a clearly defined set of legislative goals.
Here's what our public policy team is currently working on:
- Ensuring that 25 percent of state funds available annually for land conservation are directed to the Hudson Valley and $10 million to the Hudson River Estuary Program.
- Promoting legislation encouraging smart growth — increasing incentives for revitalizing downtowns, not building in suburbs.
- Strengthen NY Department of State’s Coastal Management policies and other regulations that help communities connect residents to their river.
- Completing funding for key waterfront projects such as the ongoing revitalization of the Long Dock Beacon property — a model for boosting a local economy while healing a contaminated former industrial site.
- Combating global climate change by helping municipalities develop model ways to reduce their carbon footprints and potential harmful impacts of global warming.
Our work with the NYS DEC Hudson River Estuary Program helps to create public boat launches that allow people to get out on the river.Photo © Walter Earl
